What Is NJHS?

The National Junior Honor Society is the nation's premier organization established to recognize outstanding middle level students. More than just an honor roll, NJHS serves to honor those students who have demonstrated excellence in the areas of scholarship, service, leadership, character, and citizenship.

The Five Pillars of the NJHS

Character gives each of us our individuality.  Character is achieved, not received.  It is the product of constantly striving to make the right choices.  When we demonstrate respect, responsibility, trustworthiness, fairness, kindness, and self-control, then we are proving, by example, that we value character.

Scholarship is the commitment to learning.  We should continue to learn even when our formal education has ended.  Knowledge, acquired through hard work and effort, leads to the ultimate success in life.

Service happens in the routing of our daily lives—in school and in the community.  We are willing to work for the benefit of those in need in order to create a better tomorrow.

Leadership is always needed.  Student leaders are resourceful, dependable, and responsible.  They inspire others to succeed and contribute to the success of their school community.

Good citizenship requires respect for freedom and the laws of our country, state and community.  As respectful, responsible citizens, we work together to improve our lives and the lives of those around us.
